I make pictures that wait.

I came to photography the long way round — through painting, and a stubborn habit of staring at light on walls.

My work lives in the quiet register: portraits made after the subject forgets the camera, landscapes shot in the thin minutes around first light. I shoot film and digital, and I'm happiest on a long, unhurried day.

I work between Lisbon and wherever a commission takes me. If the brief needs speed and spectacle, I'm probably the wrong photographer. If it needs patience, we'll get along.
