Packing light for a ten-day shoot

What actually comes with me when I'm shooting a series far from home — and the gear I finally stopped carrying.

Packing light for a ten-day shoot

For years I packed for every possibility and used a fraction of it. The turning point was a series on the coast where I left everything but one camera and two lenses in the car for a week. The work got better immediately.

Constraints make decisions for you. One body, a 35 and an 85, more film than I think I’ll need, and a cloth to keep the salt off the front element. That’s the whole kit now.

The thing you leave behind isn’t weight. It’s the option to hesitate.
