Salt & Light

A summer on the Atlantic coast, chasing the hour when the sea turns to metal.

Costa Vicentina, PT

Hasselblad 500C/M · Portra 400

Salt & Light began as an excuse to be near the water and ended as the most patient work I’ve made. For six weeks I drove the same stretch of coast before sunrise, learning where the light would land.

The sea doesn’t pose. You wait, and occasionally it gives you something — a sheet of mercury, fog that erases the horizon, a single figure who has no idea they’ve made the picture. Shot entirely on medium-format film, because the slowness was the point.
